There are many male actors in Hollywood that qualify as being talented and dedicated enough to do a wide variety of roles in their careers.

Names like Jim Carrey, Jack Nicholson come to one’s mind rather quickly, but among the unsung section of male actors, the name of Michael Chiklis deserves an honorable mention.

Although many will baulk at the mention of this supposed unheralded actor, the perceptions will change once they have a look at the shows and the movies the man has done.

Michael Chiklis has played roles as vivid as a perfect rainbow. They range from his act as Ben ‘The Thing’ Grimm on the Fantastic Four series to the portrayal of Curly Howard on the television version of “The Three Stooges” to probably his best performance ever, Detective Vic Mackey on The Shield.

Even his recent show, No Ordinary Family had received rave reviews and very good ratings, before the meddling studio bosses interfered and cancelled the show.

The reason I regard Michael’s performance on the famous crime drama, The Shield, is that the value of variety in life is a bit overrated and in the end, it comes down to the dark, downtrodden realities of life and how much color can a person infuse into certain dark characters.

And Michael Chiklis brought alive the character of Vic Mackey, the disturbed LAPD detective, almost effortlessly. With the benefit of hindsight, we can assume that it was The Shield and the role of Mackey that propelled Michael to the mainstream spotlight.

We can argue over that but the fact that Michael Chiklis won the Emmy Award for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and a Golden freaking Globe Award in the year 2002, probably clinches the argument here.

Granted that The Shield raised some controversies for its extremely violent content, but it was a crime drama. What were they expecting from a crime drama based in Los Angeles? Michael Chiklis handing free candy to the conmen and criminals roaming free!

Yeah! The man from Massachusetts has answered his call of duty!

To stand up like a true fan and support his hockey team!

Well, as he is from Massachusetts, it should not come as a surprise that he loves hockey. The ongoing hockey season is tightly balanced with Vancouver Canucks and Chiklis’ team Boston Bruins resting at the same position on the points table.

The man is chewing his nails off in excitement as his team steps into game 5. Why this is all the more exciting for him is because the Bruins have entered the Championship first time in 21 years.

In an interview, he accepted that he was terribly nervous, as this was a tight game, though he said that given the previous record, Bruins had a fairly better chance at beating the Canucks.

The Emmy Award winning Chiklis, who stars in many award winning shows, is known to be a veteran at his art. Really! Watch The Shield (available online) and you would know! But such enthusiasm for sports is something that is really impressive to see.

Well, a man should stand for his men and that’s what this star is doing! The star also happens to be one heck of a singer and is one dandy of a looker. He is also slated to be the host for CBS’ “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular.”

Yes, he is a busy man, but in spite of all the engagements, the star has been keeping track of the league’s table and has also been hooting and rooting (whenever possible) for his home squad!

Must add, this is pretty impressive for a man of his schedule and prominence in the television industry. Most of the times people get carried away and forget about their own passions, but not my man here! He loves his hockey and he loves following it like a true fan!

Some of the roles performed by them, mark its name in history.

I’m sure you agree on this and today I will acquaint you guys, with one such role, that is nothing short of spectacular.

Well, I’m talking about Michael Chiklis’ role of Detective Vic Mackey in the crime-drama, The Shield.

His role is one of my favorites, as the way he performed it, actually made alive the character he portrayed. He has done it with sheer intensity, which is the parameter to judge the success of any role.

The actor enters the category of distinguished actors, when the character played by him/her becomes inseparable from his/her own personality. The actors consider it the best compliment from his/her fans, when they start recognizing him/her, with the character’s name that they have portrayed.

Talking about Michael’s role, he played the role of a corrupt police officer, who is nothing less than a criminal mind. He deals with drug dealers and he himself is a murderer as well.

Unfolding the layers of his role even further, the actor breaks laws and is obsessed with the notion to control anything and everything. This even put his personal life, out of track. His infidelity also puts a question-mark on his marriage.

Such things make his role very appealing and he never failed in his attempt to impress his fans.

Well, I’m sure those of you who have witnessed Michael, throughout his stint in the show, will agree with all that I had to say.

We just hope Michael continues to do such incredible roles in the future as well, and keeps entertaining his fans!
